




A working committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) held its meeting at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.
The meeting was presided by Committee Chairman and Union Minister Dr. Soe Win, and attendees discussed the reports on implementations of the previous meeting’s decisions. The working committee on the Rights of PWDs was established in 2018 and reformed on March 18th 2024.
The Action Plans on the 5-year Strategy (2022-2027) was drafted under the leadership of related Sub-committee Chairmen, with approval and distribution on February 15th 2024. Implementations are underway for scrutinizing registration process of persons with disabilities groups by forming the Task Force for drafting the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), comprising with persons form related ministries and organizations.
To ensure accuracy of disabilities data, disability rating and registration works have been implemented in 18 townships and it will be continued in another 6 designated project areas.
And, those who have disability registration cards are continuously provided with cash assistance. Likewise, 29 special private schools/departments for the children with disabilities were established and are conducting trainings for mentally and physically development of PWDs.
