Work Undertakings: Film festival, cinema upgrade & election awareness

Launching Ceremony of 2025 Chinese Film Week and China-Myanmar Film Festival was held at Nay Pyi Taw Cinema in Yangon on Sunday. It is also a program of promoting the cultural exchange between the two nations, marking the 75th Anniversary of China-Myanmar Diplomatic Relations.

The event was attended by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn and wife, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia, officials, invited guests and enthusiasts.

After screening the video clip on the introduction of the festival, the Chinese Ambassador delivered a speech. Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn then gave a speech, stating that Chinese Film Festivals have been held in Yangon and Mandalay every year. Due to its soft power, people became closer with understanding despite differences in their languages. Myanmar and China make cooperation in various sectors including Information and cultural fields.

He expressed his belief that today’s event will promote understanding between the two countries while strengthening friendship and PaukPhaw relations. This was followed by saluting the state flag, and screening of a movie - “Wukong”. The event will run until 19th of November. During the festival, 8 Chinese movies including Wukong with Myanmar Subtitle will be screened and people can watch it free of charge after making registration. 

Earlier in the morning, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn inspected the progress of Waziyar Cinema upgrading project as a Red carpet Theater.

At the meeting hall, official presented the status of upgrading process in which the Union Minister instructed to complete the upgrading of facility before March of 2026, to meet set standard, and to install best quality seating plan, sound and lighting system. They also observed the chosen site to build the car-parking in front of the cinema.

After that, the Union Minister proceeded to Myanma Radio and Television and encouraged the famous artists who participated in Public Service Announcement- PSA for 2025 Multiparty Democratic General Election to be held successfully.  During the meeting, the Union Minister expressed his appreciation for their active participation in election awareness activities.
