The opening ceremony of the Library Development and Reading Habit Promotion Festival, jointly organized by the Information and Public Relations Department and the Basic Education Department under the supervision of the Shan State Government, was held on November 20 at Basic Education High School (Haung Lait) in Tachileik.

Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung attended the ceremony and formally opened the festival together with the officials. The Chief Minister explained that the festival is part of nationwide efforts that began in 2024 to promote reading habits, library development, and interest in books among students.

He added that in 2025, a total of 13 similar events will be held across Shan State. The Chief Minister then provided cash assistance and books to high schools and libraries, while the Triangle Region Commander donated books and prizes to winners of essay, storytelling, public speaking, and painting competitions. Local donors also contributed cash and musical instruments to schools.

Later, the Chief Minister and officials visited various competitions such as poetry, storytelling, science exhibits, and traditional games, and presented prizes to the winners. They then met with district and township officials to discuss flood prevention, waste management, and preparations for upcoming elections.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for free and fair elections, proper voter registration, and effective coordination among officials. Officials also inspected the concrete flood protection wall construction project in Pont Htoon  Ward and provided necessary instructions.
