




A work coordination meeting for prevention and control of Monkey Pox disease was held at the Regional Government Office in Dawei on Friday morning.
Chief Minister of Tanintharyi Region U Myat Ko said that Mpox (monkey pox) epidemics is increasing in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and African countries, with the rapid spreading of a new strain (Clade lb) as cross-border transmission.
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Mpox as Public Health Emergency For International Concerned (PHEIC) in August. The Chief Minister added that no Mpox case has been detected in Myanmar so far, and called for collaboration of all concerned personnel for prevention of Monkey Pox disease.
He also instructed the need to make preparation of necessary treatment for Mpox, and raising public awareness in cooperation with NGOs. After that related departmental officials discussed about the cooperation process for related sectors, future plans and knowledge sharing activities for prevention of Mpox disease.
