Work Committee meeting: MoHT UM gave opening speech at the meeting

The Tourism Work Committee meeting (1/2024) was held at Nilar Hall of the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 20th March and attended by the National Tourism Industry Development Central Committee Vice Chair, Chair of Tourism Work Committee Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Khine and gave an opening speech.

Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister said that this meeting is held to be able to implement the work undertakings on the decisions made by the previous National Tourism Industry Development Central Committee meeting and Work Committee meetings.

The Ministry is putting effort for the development of tourism industry with the Public-Private partnership. According to the statistics, the arrival of international tourists returns to increase as well as the progress of domestic tourism.

As the liberalization on the entry visa for the major tourism market countries of Myanmar has been carried out with the cooperation of the related ministries at the middle of 2023, the arrival of Chinese tourists at 769%, India tourists at 78% and Russian Tourists at 133% is found out in comparison with the rate in 2022.

The Union Minister also pointed out the Ministry is implementing to promote the tourism image of the country at the international area with public-private partnership model, cooperation with the foreign countries in the tourism sector, participation in the international tourism expos, the necessary arrangements are being made to draw the standard operation procedures for the hotel and tourism sector human resource development and the systematic development as per the sector of the hotel and tourism sectors etc.

Next, the committee secretary read the completed implementations on the decisions made at Work Committee meeting (2/2023) and the case files.

Then, the committee members discussed the related matters. The permanent secretary and the Senior officials discussed the matters on more arrival of tourists from the major tourism market countries and tourism promotion commercials, hotel and tourism sector human resource development and the natural resources at the coastal regions to be protected from damage and sustainability and the Union Minister gave supplemental discussion.
