A woman who went swimming off a beach in Japan and was swept out to sea was rescued about 80 kilometers off the coast after 36 hours, officials said on Thursday. The local coast guard launched a search and rescue operation after the alarm was raised for the Chinese national in her 20s in Shizuoka region on Monday evening.

The crew of a freighter spotted the woman in a swim ring off the Boso Peninsula shortly before 8 a.m. on Wednesday. She was rescued by the crewmembers of a tanker which was contacted by radio. She is said to be dehydrated but conscious, and her condition is not life-threatening.
