Winter Crop Cultivation: Farmers grow the winter crops for 2022-2023

The farmers started to grow the winter crops including black sesame, pigeon peas, French beans and chickpeas in 2022-2023 cultivation season according to the good demand in Mandalay market.

Growers are trying hard to plant the winter crops during Thadingyut and Tazaungdaing period. 

Soe Win Myint, Owner, Broker’s Sale Center said "The winter crops include in the list of most exports products. The growers also get a lot of benefits in this year due to the fair weather.  I think the sown acreages in this year will not less in compare to the previous years. So, I expect the seasonal crops will produce more than last year."

The exported beans and sesames in Mandalay market are mainly cultivated in Magway, Sagaing and Ayeyawady Regions. There are also cultivated in Bago Region, Southern and Northern Shan states.

Soe Win Myint, Owner, Broker’s Sale Center said "In the market, the price of chickpeas is at 190,000 kyats per bag, the black sesames at 180,000 kyats, pigeon peas at 185,000 kyats and the French beans price at 220,000 kyats per bag. Those who have stocked the beans do not get the good price as they expected but the farmers are convenient for buying the sesame and bean seeds for growing because the price of strain seeds has dropped to about 2000 kyats per bag. "

The bean price is surging in the market due to the good demand but the fertilizers are still expensive for the growers. The winter crops such as chickpeas, French peas, black sesame and pigeon peas can be produced in January and February of the next year in orderly.
