The Director General of the World Health Organization on Monday recommended cancelling events over the festive period in the light of growing cases of the omicron variant of coronavirus worldwide.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General (WHO) said “All of us want to get back to normal. The fastest way to do this is for all of us leaders and individuals to make the difficult decisions that must be made to protect ourselves and others. In some cases, that will mean canceling or delaying events, just as we have had to cancel the reception we planned to have with you today. But an event cancelled is better than a life cancelled.”

He also railed against some countries which have been giving booster jabs to younger people while older people in poorer nations still haven't vaccinated elderly or vulnerable people.
