A White House spokesperson said a 90-day pause on what US President Donald Trump calls "reciprocal" tariffs could be extended.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested a possible extension of the pause, which is currently set to end on July 9, during a briefing on Thursday. Leavitt indicated that the tariff measures will be implemented if trading partners refuse to make a deal with the United States by the deadline.

But she added Washington has had productive discussions with many of its key trading partners. She said that the deadline "could be extended, but that's a decision for the President to make." Earlier this month, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who has been leading US tariff negotiations, also suggested the possibility of the deadline being extended.
