Welcoming Ceremony : Red carpet welcome and bilateral talks

Cambodian Acting Head of State and Senate President Samdech Hun Sen, on behalf of the King of Cambidia, warmly welcomed President U Min Aung Hlaing with a guard of honour at the Peace Palace of the Cambodian Senate on Friday.

Prior to the official ceremony, the Myanmar high-level delegation led by President U Min Aung Hlaing travelled from their hotel to the Peace Palace of the Cambodian Senate. Along the route, Cambodian people warmly welcomed the Myanmar delegation by waving the national flags of both countries, holding photographs of the two countries’ leaders and bouquets of flowers.

Scout youths also saluted the visiting delegation. Upon arrival at the venue, President U Min Aung Hlaing was warmly received by Cambodian Acting Head of State and Senate President Samdech Hun Sen. The two leaders then received the salute of the guard of honour.

During the ceremony, the military band played the national anthems of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Kingdom of Cambodia. President U Min Aung Hlaing subsequently inspected the guard of honour. Following the inspection, Hun Sen and President U Min Aung Hlaing introduced the senior officials from the two countries attending the ceremony.

President U Min Aung Hlaing and Cambodian Acting Head of State and Senate President Samdech Hun Sen later held talks, discussing matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations between Myanmar and Cambodia.

The two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between government institutions, the two armed forces and the peoples of both countries, as well as restarting the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC).

They also discussed opportunities for investment in Myanmar, including the Dawei Deep-Sea Port and Special Economic Zone, and greater cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments. Both sides reviewed cooperation through regional mechanisms such as Mekong-Lancang, CLMV and ACMECS, as well as ASEAN. They also discussed expanding trade, investment, agriculture, livestock and other areas of cooperation.

Myanmar’s efforts to combat online scams and illegal online gambling, its political developments and peace process, and its foreign policy were also discussed. Both sides agreed to continue strengthening friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and Cambodia.

This was followed by a commemorative luncheon. The Senate President delivered welcoming remarks, followed by a speech of thanks from President U Min Aung Hlaing. During the luncheon, a Cambodian cultural group performed traditional songs and dances from both countries.
