





The welcoming ceremony for the fresher students of the 2024-2025 academic year at Mawlamyine University in Mon State was held in the university’s multi-purpose hall on the morning of January 7. The event was attended by the State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, members of the Region government, the rector and pro-rectors of Mawlamyine University, faculty members, staff, and students.
The ceremony began with a performance by the university’s art club members, who sang the song "Mya Kyun Nyo Nyo," officially opening the event. During his speech, the State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein congratulated the fresher students, acknowledging their hard work and determination that led them to successfully pass the 2024 university entrance exams. He mentioned that, starting from November 21, 2024, Mawlamyine University has been offering bachelor’s and postgraduate courses for the 2024-2025 academic year, with 672 students currently enrolled in the first-year program. The Chief Minister expressed pride in the students' achievements and extended his congratulations.
After that, Mawlamyine University’s rector, Dr. Chit Sein, welcomed the new students with a speech.
The State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein then awarded prizes to the outstanding students and watched their performances. He also warmly interacted with the students and faculty present at the ceremony.
