Weightlifting competition: 2023 Region and State weightlifting competition

Aiming to develop the standard of weightlifting sport and to turn out new generation weightlifting athletes, the 2023 Region and State Weightlifting Sport Competition is being held from 12th to 16th September at Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw. 13 man and 11woman teams, altogether 172 weightlifting athletes will participate in the event.

Weightlifting Athlete, Yin Yin Htwe, Representative (Bago), said " I’m happy for winning gold medal in the event but I’m not very satisfied with myself. I am trained from 7:30 to 10:30 am in the morning and 3:30 to 6:00 pm in the evening. I tried myself to be one of the weightlifting athletes who raise the prestige of our country."

Weightlifting sport which is one of the Olympic sports and according to Myanmar Weightlifting Federation, Myanmar didn’t win any medals in weightlifting events later 2013 SEA Games hosted in Myanmar and at the 2022Cambodia SEA Games, weightlifting athletes won a gold medal and 2 bronze medals.

Chairman, Oak Gar Aye, Myanmar Weightlifting Federation, said " The Federation invited to the athletes from all regions and states and after selecting the skillful athletes by the federation, we conducted Youth camp training. Through this, we will make selection the outstanding athletes and they will be camped at Myanmar National Weightlifting Selection Team."

The Chairman of the Myanmar Weightlifting Federation added that the government and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs also provide medicines as well as the federation arranges nutritious food for the athletes. 

At 2023 Region/State Weightlifting Competition, 100,000 kyats for 1st prize, 70,000 kyats for 2nd and 50,000 kyats for 3rd were presented. Likewise, 100,000 kyats each for every best athlete award and man/woman championship trophies were presented, it’s learnt.
