

Local weavers have been preserving not only traditional weaving businesses but also mechanized weaving has been developing at Tat Gyi village in Amarapura Township.
The locals from Tat Gyi village nearby Kyauksein Pagoda (Jade Pagoda) at Amarapura Township in Mandalay region earn money for their livelihood by farming, weaving and traditional pottery businesses. Among them, in the weaving sector, traditional weaving businesses have been preserving and also mechanized weaving entrepreneurs are increasing and developing than previous time.
Yin May, Weaver said “This traditional weaving loom have been using for a long time. To weave a cloth, there are many steps. It takes one hour or two to finish weaving a piece of cloth. Before weaving, the skeins of yarns are dyed if necessary. I have been weaving about 40 years. There are many different styles of weaving clothes nowadays. Previously, I weaved to earn for living but now I am weaving just for my hobby. I will weave as much as I can till I become older.”
Swe Lay Aung, Mechanized weaving entrepreneur said “There are many designs in my weaving factory. I have been working on about 20 years. Most of weaving clothes from this factory are Longyi previously and now more Shan traditional clothes are being made. The weaving clothes are distributed to Yangon and Shan State. The cost of a weaving machine is around 2 to 4 million Kyats depending on the types and power.”
At the development of mechanized weaving sector, they can create the modern designs and export to the international markets. It will beneficial for the local people to create job opportunities, they said.
