The Mandalay City Development Committee is implementing a water pumping initiative to supply Mandalay Moat from the Ayeyawady River.
With a distance of 1,820 feet between the river and the moat, a total of 3.2 million gallons of water are being pumped daily through 12-inch and 8-inch pipes, with each pipe operating for 20 hours a day. Plans are also in place to provide water supply by drawing 4 million gallons of water from five tube-wells at the Post Office Water Supply Compound.
On August 1st, Chief Minister U Myo Aung monitored the water pumping process and urged officials to ensure a consistent water supply to residents. The Sedawgyi Dam in Madaya Township, which has been occupied by PDF terrorists since July 3rd, has halted water supply to the main canal, disrupting irrigation and drinking water availability for locals in Mandalay.
In response, the Region Government is exploring alternative methods to ensure a steady water supply for the city.
