







Commemorating the 75th Diamond Jubilee Independence Day, the Yangon Region Chief Minister’s Cup Vegetable, Fruit and Horticultural Exhibition was held from 2nd to 8th January.
With the cooperation of the Department of Agriculture and Known-You Seed Myanmar Co., ltd, Myanmar’s classic watermelon exhibition and competition was held on 7th January at the Pearl Island of Kandawgyi Nature Park in Yangon Region.
Assistant General Manager, Known-you seed Myanmar Co.,ltd, Mr. Hsueh Hung said "This competition was held with the aims to share knowledge and solve the difficulties faced in the cultivation period together and to share agricultural technique with each other. "
Judge, Yangon Region Chief Minister’s Cup Exhibition, Dr. Wunna Tun said "Watermelon is one of the highest demand fruits by consumers. As the judges, we examine and classify the external quality and internal quality such as specified weight, characteristic, flawless appearance , sweetness, specified quality and color, etc. "
Supervisor, Myint Myint Aye said "We will present cash awards of 500,000 kyats to 1st prize winner, 300,000 kyats to 2 second prize winners and 200,000 kyats to 3 third prize winners. Through the competition, we hope for the emergence of the high qualified watermelons, the better market competition and earning income of foreign currency through watermelon exports. Known- you seed Myanmar Co., ltd will sell pedigree seeds of vegetables. "
Along with the development of the green economy sector, the huge benefit will surely be gained for growers, consumers and producers through this competition and this day will be a record day for the watermelon growers.
1st prize winner, Kyaw Swar Win said "I am from Ohn Pin Village tract, Yay Tar Shay Township. I won the 1st prize with the watermelon weighed 24.1 kg with 12.4 % sweetness. I cultivated watermelon since I was Grade-5 students. Thanks to Known-you seed Myanmar Co., ltd for producing high qualified seeds of watermelon. "
Watermelon cultivation is very important for domestic self-sufficiency as well as large scale cultivating crop for earning foreign income through exports.
