Warehouse maintenance: Dept. of Disaster Management opens training

The Department of Disaster Management of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement opened the warehouse maintenance training course (1/2023) on Monday. At the ceremony, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine said that the emergency logistics process such as providing relief supplies and distribution is the main process during and after the disaster.

According to the ASEAN Standards and Certification for Experts in Disaster Management (ASCEND) Project by the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management(AHA Centre), it is planning to open the ASEAN Humanitarian Logistics Training. In order to provide emergency supplies to the victims in a timely manner, Myanmar has opened storage facilities and purchased relief aids in advance.

He said that logistics processes such as systematic storage and planning for back-up supply are being carried out.The Ministry has opened 62 warehouses in lower Myanmar and 77 warehouses in upper Myanmar to distribute supplies. If the warehouses are not properly managed, storage materials may be lost, causing losses to the state funds.

The Inventory Management Software that is used by IT technology has also been started to apply in the ledger record forms for receiving, maintaining and taking out of storage materials. The Union Minister urged to record correctly and systematically the papers and to apply effectively the knowledge learned from the course. 27 officer trainees from the Department (Head-office) and Region/State/District/Township head offices attended the course and it will last 5 days from 13th to 17th March.
