China's top diplomat Wang Yi has landed in Brazil for the upcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Foreign ministers of 10 BRICS member states are poised to gather in Rio de Janeiro from April 28th to 29th.
Their meeting will convene under the theme of strengthening Global South cooperation, with discussions on trade, hygiene and artificial intelligence.
Some scholars think the main focus of Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s trip would be on garnering support from BRICS members to uphold globalization and pull a concerted effort to cope with the U.S.’s tariff war and hegemonic pretensions. Political scholar Sonny Lo said Wang’s visit highlights China’s multilateral diplomacy. China has been Brazil’s largest trading partner and export destination.
