Voting has commenced on Saturday in Gabon's presidential election. Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM local time and closed at 6:00 PM, with over 920,000 registered voters, including 28,000 abroad, eligible to participate. Interim President General Brice Oligui Nguema, is seeking a seven-year term under the slogan “We Build Together.”
His main opponent, Alain Claude Bilie-By Nze, a former prime minister under the Bongo regime, advocates for anti-colonial reforms and reducing dependence on France. The election follows constitutional reforms that limit presidential terms to two seven-year periods and prohibit dynastic succession.
