Every year, after Amsterdam’s King’s Day celebrations, the city’s canals are filled with plastic waste. To help clean up, Dutch company Plastic Whale organizes a canal clean-up event, with around 250 volunteers using nets to collect the plastic.
Marius Smit, the founder of Plastic Whale, shared plans for a new project. Marius Smit, Plastic Whale Founder said "So we just started a new project, which is called "Tiny Clubhouse for a big impact". We want to build a floating Amsterdam canal house made from Amsterdam canal plastic and we need about 60.000 PET bottles that we fish from the canals.
We've got tens of thousands already and today's gonna add to the catch, of course. But we still need a lot of plastic to be fished..." The day, marked by large celebrations across the country, especially in Amsterdam, is the most polluted of the year, as streets are crowded with people selling goods and partying.
