Voluntary Measures: Meeting With Volunteers, CSOs, And RCS Members Held

Secretary of National Volunteer Steering Unit, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye held meeting with volunteers, civil society organizationsa and members of Red Cross Society from Kachin and Kayah States, Yangon Region, Shan State (North) and Ayeyawady region who are participating in COVID-19 prevention, control and response measures through video conferencing on Thursday, aiming to share experience and disus the needs and recommendations.
At the meeting, the Union Minister said that the government honours and acknowledges the efforts of volunteers who actively participated in the COVID-19 works. He also called on volunteers and civil society organizations to share their experience and report their needs.
The volunteers, civil society organizations, and red cross society members at the meeting reported on difficulty of funding on food for quarantined people when the quarantine period is long, the needs of masks, gloves and surgical gowns when accepting returnees from abroad and transporting them to the quarantine centers, other necessities, conducting COVID-19 awareness, spraying disinfectants, arrangements for mask campaigns and hand wash campaigns, plan to form education supporting groups in the townships for COVID-19 preventive measures when the schools are reopened and presenting certificates of honour for new volunteers and CSOs.
The volunteers and civil society organizations who are from the places where the natural disasters annually happen reported on supporting disaster resistant buildings, supporting life boats and jackets and preparations for COVID-19 preventive measures at the rescue camps when the natural disaters happen.
In response to the reports, the Union Minister said that measures will be undertaken for supporting as much as possible and in regard with disaster preparedness measures, the relevant district and township Disaster Management Departments will make field trips.
