Volleyball Championship: 2019 Men’s World Club Championships Qualification Kicked Off

The “SMM”2018 ASIAN Men’s Club Volleyball Championship kicked off on Monday at Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw.

The Championship is a Qualification Tournament for 2019 Men’s World Club Volleyball Championships. In his opening speech, Union Minster for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe stressed the Championship would nurture and enhance the enthusiasm of sports – it would play a positive role in further promoting the interest and development of volleyball.

Vice Chairman, Myanmar Volleyball Federation, Thein Win said “To host this Championship, we requested permission from Asian Volleyball Confederation about 2 years in advance. The Confederation came and checked if we could host, and they gave permission. In this tournament, there’re 4 groups. Clubs which could stand on the 1 to 8 List have hopes.”

13 clubs from 13 countries - Australia, China, Taipei, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Vietnam and Myanmar are participating in the tournament. This year’s 8-day Championship is the 2nd one Myanmar hosted – the 1st one was in 2016 also in Nay Pyi Taw.
