Visit to Taninthayi Region: Forest conservation and pearl industry growth

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi visited the District Forest Department Office in Myeik of Taninthayi Region on 24th February.

During his visit, the Union Minister met with personnel at the Region, District, and Township levels, urging them to strive for increased forest coverage, prevent illegal activities like timber logging and mineral exploration, and uphold environmental conservation as a national duty.

The Union Minister and party then proceeded to Shan Chaung Forest Nursery Garden, where they observed 68,000 saplings of various species destined for distribution during monsoon tree planting.

At Anawah Pearl Company in Kyunsu Township, the Union Minister discussed boosting pearl production through collaboration between the department and entrepreneurs, while also providing cash assistance for local infrastructure projects such as school renovations and rural clinic construction. They also observed pearl cultivation at incubation room.

On arrival at Pearl Island of Myanmar Pearl Enterprise in Boat Pyin Township, the Managing Director reported on production processes and yearly sales. The Union Minister emphasized sustainable development for Myanmar's southern pearls, which hold high demand globally. This was followed by a tour of staff housing and providing necessary assistance.
