Vietnam's newly-elected president sworn in

Vietnam’s legislative office approved Vo Van Thuong to be the country’s new president. Thuong was sworn into office until 2026 during an impromptu session at the National Assembly in Hanoi.

Before becoming president, Thuong had worked as the head of the Communist party’s central propaganda department since 2016. Thuong’s appointment came two months after former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc stepped down.
