Vietnam Expo 2018 in Myanmar was successfully opened at Tatmadaw Hall in Yangon on Thursday.
The Vietnam goods fair is organized annually since 2009 by Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam in coordination with the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Myanmar and the Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar.
This is the 12th edition and it aims to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries and to promote high quality products with fair price to Myanmar market.
Chairman, Myanmar-Vietnam Friendship Association, Tint Swai said “This Expo could bring multiple benefits. For instance, consumers from Myanmar can purchase quality products from Vietnam at best prices. The friendly relation between Myanmar and Vietnam is very strong. 10 years ago, the trade volume of Myanmar and Vietnam was only 4 million USD. Today, it has reached over 800 million USD.”
At the Expo, various products such as electronic, pharmaceutical and cosmetic, food and beverage, consumer products, construction materials and machineries were exhibited at 120 booths of 80 exhibitors from both Vietnam and Myanmar.
Currently, Vietnam is the 8th largest economic partner and 7th largest investment country to Myanmar. With 2.1 billion US dollars investment in 20 Myanmar businesses, Vietnam took the 2.73% of foreign investment in Myanmar. The two countries targeted to reach the trade volume of 1000 million US dollars by 2019.
Chairman, Vietnam-Myanmar Friendship Association, Chu Cong Phung said “The Expo is part of the goal set to reach the trade volume of 1000 million USD between Myanmar and Vietnam. It engages Myanmar consumers and Vietnamese products. There are about 200 representatives of Vietnam companies in Myanmar. More investments from Vietnam are coming to Myanmar especially in manufacturing sector.”
The Vietnam Expo 2018 is set to be held until the 16th of December.
