Viet Nam nominated to chair key nuclear treaty conference

In a notable development on Friday night, Viet Nam was nominated by 120 Non-Aligned Movement members to chair the 2026 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, as announced at the Preparatory Committee’s final session.

This nomination reflects international trust in Viet Nam’s work on disarmament, non-proliferation, and peaceful nuclear energy use, as well as its capacity to lead this key UN security process.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the United Nations, expressed gratitude for the support and pledged Viet Nam’s commitment to collaborative efforts for a successful Review Conference. The Vietnamese delegation further committed to conducting extensive consultations with countries, regional blocs, and stakeholders to bridge differences and build consensus throughout this important process.
