Viet Nam aims to resolve all outstanding IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing violations and end future breaches. To achieve this, the country is combining awareness campaigns and stricter controls with decisive enforcement, handing down severe penalties to fundamentally change the behaviour of fishers and vessel owners.

Local authorities manage vessels 15–24 metres, overseeing monitoring and violations with leaders held accountable. For vessels 24 metres and above, central authorities coordinate with localities. Weekly checks showed a sharp decline in violations, demonstrating the effectiveness of these measures.
