Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodríguez and US interior minister Doug Burgum had said the two countries will be working together to develop mining in Venezuela. The meeting took place in Caracas on Wednesday, focusing on cooperation in energy and mining in the country. Following the meeting, Rodríguez urged fellow lawmakers to back the reforms so investments could come to the country. Burgum also met with mining representatives from both countries at the event. He told the reporters that he praised Rodríguez’s collaboration in cooperating for investment in mining.
Doug Burgum, US Interior Secretary said "We have over two dozen American companies with us today. Many of these companies have worked in Venezuela earlier in their history. They are eager to get started. And I know that Delcy like President Trump wants to move to cut the red tape to allow that capital investment to flow."
Venezuela had already changed its law to allow more foreign investment in its previously nationalized oil sector and its government is planning for similar reforms of its mining sector.
