Venezuelan artist Oscar Olivares completed a 13-meter-high mural made from more than 100,000 bottle caps collected by children, adults, and recyclers from the Zacamil neighborhood of El Salvador, which was once controlled by gangs. Entitled “The Latin American Mona Lisa”, the mural pays tribute to Salvadoran women and represents, according to Olivares, the "rebirth" of El Salvador.

Olivares has created murals using plastic caps in Venezuela, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, France and Italy, finding use for over 2 million caps in more than two dozen murals. He hopes his work will give viewers "a completely different view of plastic waste."
