Vaccine Provisions: MOH Union Minister Met GAVI Delegation

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win received a delegation led by Managing Director of GAVI – The Vaccine Alliance Mr. Thabani Maphosa, based in Geneva of Swizerland at his office in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

The Union Minister discussed that Myanmar has made efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in line with one of the 5-point road map, “Effective measures will be taken with added momentum to prevent and manage the COVID-19 pandemic”.

COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country including the far-flung areas, with the use of 80 milliion doses through purchasing and donation by the neighbouring countries and friendly nations. When the COVID-19 infection has declined, the routine vaccination and public health care services are being implemented with added momentum.

The Union Minister stressed the needs to make close cooperation with the GAVI, UNICEF and WHO in the routine vaccination process. The Ministry will accept and welcome any assistance that has no obligation, and will use those assistance effectively. The visiting Managing Director discussed that one-dose COVID-19 vaccines will be provided to be used in the vaccination at far-flung areas. GAVI will also provide assistance for routine vaccination process. He added that close cooperation will be made with the UNICEF and WHO for the vaccination process.
