On June 4, the United States exercised its veto power in the United Nations Security Council, blocking a resolution that called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution, co-sponsored by Algeria and Greece, was supported by all 14 other council members, including close U.S. allies such as the United Kingdom, France, and China.

The U.S. justified its veto by stating that it would not support any measure that fails to explicitly condemn Hamas and demand its disarmament and withdrawal from Gaza. This veto marks the fifth time the U.S. has blocked a similar resolution since the onset of the conflict in Gaza.

The international community continues to call for a balanced approach that addresses both humanitarian needs and the security concerns of all parties involved.
