Parts of the U.S. Army's Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia State were locked down Wednesday after an active shooter was reported on the sprawling Army post, according to a senior officer.

At least five soldiers were shot at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield. The gunman was apprehended shortly afterward. Located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah city, Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. The incident remains under investigation.
