UN's Guterres reiterates call for immediate Gaza-Israel ceasefire

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire as Israel approves a military plan for the conquest of Gaza City.

On the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, Guterres said reporters that "it is vital to reach immediately ceasefire to avoid the massive deaths and destruction at which the military operation against Gaza City would inevitably cause".

 He also stated that "the decision by the Israeli authorities to expand illegal settlement construction, which would divide the West Bank, must be reversed. All settlement construction is a violation of international law."
