The United Nations Security Council has voted down a proposal to continue sanctions relief for Iran under the 2015 nuclear deal.  The voting took place at a meeting on Friday. The draft resolution failed to acquire enough support for adoption as only four of the 15 Security Council members voted in favour.

At the gathering, Western countries called on Iran to seriously commit to a diplomatic solution if Tehran wants to avoid the re-imposition of the sanctions The deadline for the process of the re-imposition of the sanctions is by the end of next week. It remains unclear whether any concessions will be made between the two sides before then.
