UN Human Rights top official met Maduro in Caracas

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Friday received the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk at the presidential palace. Türk arrived in Venezuela on Thursday on his first visit since taking office in October to replace Chilean Michelle Bachelet, who had severely criticised the Venezuelan government.

Maduro said he was very happy for Türk visit after holding a private meeting with no statements afterwards. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil, the first official Türk met, said they reviewed the government's progress on human rights.
