A senior United Nations official has expressed high hopes for Japan to play a major role in rebuilding the war-torn Gaza Strip. Administrator Jaco Cilliers, the special representative of the UN Development Programme, visited Gaza on Saturday. He predicted that the removal work will take more than five years.

He said that Japan not only provides funding, but also helps significantly with technical insights. He cited Japan's ample experience on how to recycle rubble from tsunami and earthquake devastation. Japan has provided around six million dollars for the UNDP to help clear the debris.
