The United Nations Security Council is holding an emergency meeting on the situation in Afghanistan on Monday in New York.

Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General said "We are receiving chilling reports of severe restrictions on human rights throughout the country, and I am particularly concerned by accounts of mounting human rights violations against the women and girls of Afghanistan who fear a return to the darkest days." I call for an immediate end to violence, for the rights of all Afghans to be respected and for Afghanistan to comply with all international agreements to which it is a party.  We cannot and must not abandon the people of Afghanistan."
On Monday, President Joe Biden said that he stands squarely behind his decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan and that the Afghan government's collapse was quicker than anticipated.  Biden said he'd rather take the criticism over the fallout in Afghanistan than leave the decision to another president.
