UK PM Starmer welcomes Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to Downing Street

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Ahmed al-Sharaa, the President of Syria, to 10 Downing Street in London as part of a diplomatic meeting focused on rebuilding relations between the two countries.

The meeting took place at the British prime minister’s official residence and office, where Starmer formally welcomed the Syrian leader.  It is considered one of the first high-level engagements between the UK and Syria in many years, following political changes in Syria after the fall of former president Bashar al-Assad’s government.

 Discussions are expected to include diplomatic relations, economic cooperation, and Syria’s reconstruction, as well as regional security issues.
