The Union Election Commission issued an announcement regarding advance voting on January 2, 2026.

The announcement states that the Union Election Commission, in accordance with legal provisions, has made arrangements to enable eligible voters within and outside the country to cast advance votes, in order to ensure they do not lose their right to vote, a citizen's right, in the Multi-Party Democracy General Election, which commenced on December 28, 2025.

It details the operational procedures for advance voting by voters residing abroad, carried out with the permission of the Union Government and in accordance with Section 47 of the relevant Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Election Law and its by-law procedures during the election period.

Furthermore, it outlines the operational procedures for advance voting by voters who are outside their registered township, such as Tatmadaw members and their co-residing family members, students, trainees, detainees, and inpatients in hospitals, in accordance with Section 45(a) of the relevant Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Election Law and its by-law procedures.

Additionally, it covers the operational procedures for advance voting for individuals who cannot personally come to polling stations on election day, such as those suffering from leprosy, severe illness, the elderly and infirm, women in childbirth, detainees in police custody or prisons, inpatients receiving medical treatment in hospitals, and civil servants, Tatmadaw members, and police personnel on temporary official duty beyond their registered area.

The announcement provides detailed explanations of the operational procedures carried out by the relevant Township Election Sub- Commissions, and Region and State Election Sub- Commission, concerning advance voting.
