U Thant Library and Museum: Opening ceremony held in Pantanaw Township

U Thant Library and Museum opened in Pantanaw Township of Ayeyawady Region on Friday. The opening ceremony saw the attendance of member of the State Administration Council Mahn Nyein Maung, Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, Commander of Southwest Command Maj-Gen Wai Lin and Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint.

The SAC member urged all to strive for long term success of the facility which brings honour to the local community.

During the ceremony, well-wishers donated 15 million kyats cash assistance for constructing new library, book shelves, books and periodicals as well as a set of DTH Satellite and 3 sets of Set Top Box. There are 323 libraries in Ayeyawady Region, and renovations works have been carried out to the needed facilities.

Currently, the government is implementing efforts for development of libraries and promoting reading habit, providing assistance for constructing new libraries and renovating the existing ones.
