Typhoon Shanshan damages near Tokyo

Tropical Storm Shanshan is moving northeast over southwestern Japan. Weather officials are warning that it will bring heavy rains and strong winds to many parts of the country into the weekend. 

As of Friday morning, Shanshan was moving slowly over Oita Prefecture in Kyushu. Mudslide alerts are in effect in around a dozen prefectures from Kyushu to Kanto. Officials are warning people to watch out for landslides, violent winds, overflowing rivers, and storm surges.
