Super Typhoon Fung-Wong made landfall in Aurora Province in the eastern part of Luzon Island in the Philippines on Sunday night.

In Baler, the capital of Aurora Province, about 70 kilometers from the typhoon’s landfall site, conditions remained severe despite winds moderating after landfall. Enormous waves continued to pound the shoreline, with the roar of the sea audible throughout the coastal town. The entire town of Baler experienced a complete power outage, forcing some hotels to rely on generators.

The Philippine Office of Civil Defense reported that approximately 1.1 million residents had been evacuated from high-risk areas by Sunday afternoon in preparation for the typhoon’s arrival. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the super typhoon had already claimed at least two lives before making landfall.
