US President Donald Trump is urging countries affected by the effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz to send military ships to the key oil route. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has criticized the call.

Trump wrote on social media Saturday that several countries will work with the US to deploy warships "to keep the Strait open and safe," saying he hopes China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK and others will join. Iranian state media reported on Saturday that Tehran has warned residents to evacuate three port areas in the United Arab Emirates, calling them legitimate targets where US forces are allegedly hiding in civilian facilities.
