US President Donald Trump expressed interest in meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping later this year, citing improvements in economic ties between the two countries.

Donald Trump, President of the United States  said "I'm meeting a lot of people, I mean it's hard to say that, but I'd like to meet him this year. President Xi would like me to come to China, it's a very important relationship. As you know we're taking a lot of money in from China because of the tariffs and different things, and it's a very important relationship. We're going to get along good with China."

He highlighted ongoing trade negotiations, noting that US restrictions on Boeing parts affected about 200 Chinese aircraft due to China’s refusal to supply magnets. Trump also indicated that higher tariffs could be imposed if necessary, though such measures could halt trade entirely, underscoring the strategic leverage tariffs provide in managing the bilateral economic relationship.
