US President Donald Trump has suggested that he may soon raise tariffs on foreign automobiles to persuade carmakers to build vehicles in the United States. The President hit all imported automobiles with an additional 25 percent tariff in April.

The Japanese government has been negotiating with Washington over the tariff measures. It hopes to reach an agreement at a bilateral summit, scheduled to be held on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Canada next week. Japan's top tariff negotiator, Economic Revitalization Minister is heading to Washington on Friday for his sixth round of talks.
