Trump rules out immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, pushes for direct 'peace agreement'

U.S. President Donald Trump ruled out an immediate ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine after his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, saying a direct peace agreement would be the only way to end the conflict.

The two leaders met for three hours and found areas of mutual understanding but reached no breakthrough on halting the fighting. After the meeting, Trump said he also spoke with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and several European leaders, including NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. According to Trump, the discussions concluded that a comprehensive peace agreement, rather than a temporary ceasefire, would be the most viable path toward resolving the conflict.
