US President Donald Trump has invited Pope Leo XIV to visit the White House, with Vice President JD Vance handing over a letter from Trump to the first American pontiff on Monday. The letter, also signed by First Lady Melania Trump, conveyed warm wishes and extended an official invitation for a visit at the earliest opportunity.

Karoline Leavitt , White House Press Secretary said "My understanding was it was a good meeting, a productive meeting. And we're grateful that the vice president did it, and that he also went to the Pope's first mass in Rome. I also have an update that the vice president passed along a letter to the pope from the president and from the First Lady, extending their warm wishes and inviting them to the White House as soon as they possibly can come. "

The Vatican has not yet confirmed a date for the potential visit.
