Truckers continued to protest on Thursday in a region ruled by an opposition leader sparking meat price hikes in Bolivia.

The Santa Cruz region is suffering on the eighth day of blockades and protests following the arrest of its governor, Luis Fernando Camacho.

Camacho is being held in prison in the capital La Paz on terrorism charges. Street protests by Camacho loyalists are continuing for the eighth day, and on Wednesday, dozens of truck drivers took to the streets in a caravan as a sign of a strike. The transport strike has had an impact on prices in the markets of the capital La Paz, especially for chicken and beef.
