Officials in British Columbia are struggling to reopen roads, bring food to livestock and stop flooding brought by recent heavy rainfall. In Abbotsford, along the US border, Mayor Henry Braun said they plan to build a dike to keep water out of the Sumas Prairie, which is actually a former lakebed.

British Columbia officials are also using helicopters to bring food and water to farm animals and are hoping to redirect a shipment of animal feed that had been destined to be shipped to China. Officials have also called out some 120 Canadian Forces soldiers to help in flood relief efforts and evacuations.
