





Due to the earthquake that struck on March 28, the Ayeyarwady River Crossing (Innwa) Bridge, which connects Mandalay and Sagaing Regions, was damaged. Six piers of the bridge collapsed into the river.
Similarly, local residents encountered transportation challenges due to the damage sustained by the New Sagaing Bridge. To address these obstacles, the Ministry of Transport and Communications arranged free vessel transportation from Mandalay Port to Sagaing Port, utilizing the Ministry's own vessels starting 31st March.
Under the guidance of the Ministry, private-owned cargo vessels are also providing daily free transportation of cargo trucks and rescue vehicles across the river within the region free of charge.
From March 31 to April 2, a total of 794 passengers, 353 large cargo vehicles, 138 small motor vehicles, and 12 motorcycles were successfully transported across the river. It is reported that the free river-crossing transportation service will continue to be provided as needed.
