Transportation Access: Restoration works along Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon Section

On 20th April, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant accompanied by concerned officials inspected the restoration process of earthquake affected Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon Road Section on Yangon-Mandalay Express Way.

At Swar Chaung Bridge at mile post 165/1, the Union Minister heard reports on damage assessments of the earthquake affected two Swar Chaung Bridges, operation of newly constructed bailey bridge and its resilience.

Upon reports, the Union Minister elaborated the importance of Yangon-Mandalay Highway and instructed on systematic management and restoration of the highway to ensure uninterrupted transportation access, detailed scrutinizing on damaged Swar Chaung Bridge and continuous resilience assessment on newly constructed bailey bridge.

Then, the Union Minister inspected the damaged areas of the Swar Chaung Bridge and condition of Bailey Bridge and gave necessary instructions. The devastating Mandalay earthquake on 28th March caused major damages on 283 parts of Yangon-Mandalay Highway and minor damages on 185 parts. To ensure uninterrupted public transportation, the temporary restoration measures are being conducted on damaged bridges except for destroyed Doke Hta Wadi Bridge at mile post 358/2. Public is urged use the temporary road sections in compliance with the set speed limits for safety.

Then, the Union Minister made inspection along the Highway and oversaw the restoration process of cracked section at mile post 183/7 and approached road and deck of Thaik Chaung Bridge and provided necessary instructions.
